Visual Art

At Peregian Beach College Visual Art is offered from Prep to Year 12. Visual Art prepares young people for a future in the workforce by requiring them to seek creative solutions to complex design problems, think divergently and use higher order learning skills to articulate an informed and individualised aesthetic (style/expression).

Junior School Visual Art (Prep-4)

In Prep to Year 4, students explore art over a 50-minute lesson each week. Prep to Year 2 students are engaged through purposeful and creative play in structured activities, fostering a strong sense of wellbeing and developing their connection with and contribution to the world. In Years 3 and 4, learning in Visual Art builds on the experience of the previous levels. It involves students making and responding to artworks independently and collaboratively with their classmates and teachers.

Middle School Visual Art (5-8)

Middle School art involves one 50-minute lesson a week.  Students draw on artworks from a range of cultures, times and locations. Students plan their art making in response to exploration of techniques and processes used in their own and others’ artworks. They demonstrate use of visual conventions, techniques and processes to communicate meaning in their artworks.

Senior School Visual Art (9-12)

Students may choose to study Visual Art over the course of Years 9 and 10 and again for Years 11 and 12. This involves three to four 50-minute classroom lessons per week. Students in Years 9 and 10 are required to submit documentation showing the development of their ideas, the completed portfolio and research tasks. The Senior Visual Art course encourages students to make, appraise and display artworks with confidence and individuality. The course promotes critical, cultural and aesthetic understandings through participation in the processes of the Visual Art experience. Students will be actively involved in researching, developing, resolving and reflecting ideas through a variety of Visual Art forms.
